Peter Cornett at The Purple Moon
The Purple Moon will feature works by Peter Cornett during June 25 ArtWalk.
Exquisite materials, sleek and sculptural lines, wonderful contrasts of colors and textures — all of these are qualities of both fine art and fine furniture. Peter Cornett brings all of these qualities and more together in his handcrafted furniture creations.
These are pieces unlike any you will find in a furniture store — they are true works of art and ones which can both grace your home and be used in your home for decades and be passed on. They are heirlooms of the future.
Cornett, whose home and shop are in Webster County not far from where he grew up, is largely self-taught in his craft, although his path was not direct. He studied mathematics then worked shortly as a contractor in North Carolina before operating a millworks and building custom interiors in Florida. Family changes got him headed back to West Virginia.
Cornett was named a finalist for the prestigious 2015 Niche Awards, which celebrate excellence and innovation in American and Canadian fine craft. Niche magazine selects a prestigious panel of judges annually from among guild and museum directors, curators, craft industry experts and art advocates nationwide. The top five creators in each of 14 categories are named finalists. Peter prefers to produce one-off pieces in his own, often eclectic, style.
The Purple Moon will host a reception with Peter Cornett on Thursday, June 25th, during ArtWalk and will be there throughout the weekend with demonstrations of his craft.
This month marks The Purple Moon's 10th Anniversary in downtown Charleston.
