Kathy Boland will be presenting an artist’s talk during Art Walk at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 16 at Gallery Eleven. She is Gallery Eleven’s Featured Artist for the month of July.
Boland is a painter and printmaker from Charleston. She received her BFA from Marymount College (Tarrytown, NY) in 1961 and studied at the Kingston School of Art (London,UK) during 1958. In 2001, she was awarded a National Endowment for the Arts grant in printmaking. More recently in 2011, she was honored by the Charleston Community Music Association for her contribution to art. In 2012, she received an achievement award at the 68th Allied Artist of West Virginia Juried Exhibition Parkersburg, WV.
Kathy Boland is known for her sketches (oil, watercolor, pastel, mixed media) and prints (etching, woodcut, monotype, dry point) of the colorful gardens and parlor of the Greenbrier Resort, as well as scenes of Charleston and rural West Virginia.
A mother of five daughters and nine granddaughters, Kathy often includes women in her paintings.
“I love the quality of togetherness that I feel with women,” Kathy said in describing the current exhibit, which she has entitled, “Woman.”
Gallery Eleven is located in the Medical Arts Building at 1025 Quarrier Street. The Gallery is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a..m. to 5 p.m. and will be welcoming guests during ArtWalk from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 16.
