Rowan's Encaustic Art at Deacon & Deacon
Deacon and Deacon Insurance will showcase the work of Sherii “Sha” Rowan, an encaustic artist who paints with a torch during ArtWalk Thursday, Oct. 20.
Encaustic painting uses the transformative nature of heat. This medium is made from molten beeswax, tree resin, and earth pigments. By torch-fusing at around 1,400 degrees, the paint is permanently bonded to wooden canvases, forming a rigid, enamel-like surface. Rowan’s goal is to create works that are sophisticated, but free-flowing.
She is inspired by the organic beauty that arises from heat induced alchemy, pushing boundaries, to go from “flow to form.” Visit www.srowan.weebly.com for more info.
