Angela Davis Rexroad was born and raised in Charleston. According to her mother, Angela began her art career when she was around three years old where she was constantly drawing on the walls of her childhood home. She completed her first oil painting at the age of 12 after she received a paint by number oil set for her birthday. She says, “to this day, in my mind, I can still smell the beautiful aroma of that oil paint.” Angela is a self taught multiple medium artist. She first started working with oils then ventured out to other mediums such as oil pastel, charcoal, graphite and acrylic. Her favored artists influences are Van Gogh, Matisse, Degas, and Klimt among others. Her subjects range from dogs and cats to historical figures to everyday happenings. She says” when I see something that is beautiful to my eyes, and sparks any specific emotions that I have down inside me, I paint it! When I sit down to paint a piece, it is like there is a relationship only involving my brain and my hand that takes place. It’s almost like an out of body experience. Sometimes I look at my work and I say to myself this is great, how did I do this? I amaze myself”. Angela has completed around 100 paintings in the past 10 years and most of those in just the past 3 years. You can find her work in homes around the country such as Seattle, Miami, New Jersey, New York and Pittsburgh.
