UC's Interior Design and Drafting Technology program showing at AIA WV Sponsored by Pickering As
We will be displaying The Interior Design and Drafting Technology program at the University of Charleston. They will be displaying projects created from the 2018 graduating seniors and past graduates. Each spring semester, the seniors are asked to create a project for an existing client. In the past years, students have worked with the East End and West End Historical Districts, local businesses, and small-communities like Hurricane WV.
The students work through Phase I, programming, collecting facts, research, interviews, and concept development. Once completed, the students move on to Phase II, schematic, and develop adjacencies, schematic sketches, and preliminary plans for the client to approve. When the students reach Phase III, design, they refine the plans based on feedback from the client, create a final presentation to present for approval, and develop a preliminary budget. Phase IV, contract documents, students revise the plans and budget, create demolition and construction drawings, reflected ceiling and electrical/lighting plans, and finalize codes research.
The project helps students understand the importance of the design process and working in a “real world” experience. Please stop in and see the projects from UC’s Interior Design and Drafting Technology students.
