Newman Jackson showing at Xtreme Labor Solutions
NewmanJackson resides in Charleston, West Virginia where he is kicking off a second career as a full-time artisan with an ambition to become an active name among art devotees.
Newman has always wanted to become a career artisan so in 1973, at the ripe old age of twenty-five, he enrolled at West Virginia State College under the G.I. bill majoring in art. The years at State College bought him into the fold of Della Brown Taylor, Culbert Smith, Paul Nuchims and Raymond McNamara, artisans of fabric, clay, canvas, metal, paint, ink and photography. Unfortunately, Newman had to postpone the desires of an art career for more pressing family obligations.
Newman's first foray into a career as a full-time artisan has allowed his first one-man show in 2007 at the Frankenberger Art gallery at the University of Charleston and established a website to showcase his works. Newman opened his studio in downtown Charleston and since his membership with Allied Artist, In 2008 Newman has had two pieces, on two separate occasions, to appear in the David L. Dickirson Fine Arts Gallery at Tamarack in Beckley, West Virginia.
