The West Virginia Child Advocacy Network (WVCAN) will be holding a silent auction during ArtWalk. It will be an evening of inspiration, courage, and support.
The West Virginia Child Advocacy Network (WVCAN) is a movement made up of the 21 local children’s advocacy centers (CACs) serving children throughout West Virginia. We also serve the local professionals investigating, prosecuting, and treating child abuse with our committed board of directors, dedicated donors, volunteers, staff, and corporate and government partners. WVCAN works side-by-side with CACs throughout the Mountain State to minimize trauma for abused children, break the cycle of abuse, and hold offenders accountable.
Earlier this year, the SHINE Campaign launched. It’s a national campaign with WV roots - to lift up survivors of childhood sexual abuse, and to raise awareness and funds for the child advocacy center (CAC) movement. In the last year, 4,445 West Virginia children walked through the doors of a CAC following a disclosure of sexual or physical abuse. But we know the number of children who are sexually abused is actually 10x higher. Currently, the West Virginia Child Advocacy Network officially serves 43 counties, and we have big, bold plans to expand services to all 55 counties within the next 5 years. Help us ensure every WV kid has access to a CAC, so they can find hope, healing, and justice.
